The history of dry stane dykes / dry stone walls goes back many hundreds of years built without mortar, these sturdy walls provide habitat for small animals Lichens and Mosses. The stones gathered from the fields were built into dry stone walls.

Dry stane dykes are one of the enduring features of the landscape in Scotland, walls of local stone, (put together without mortar), that have been standing for hundreds of years.

Stone walls & stone features are an art form seen throughout Scotland each wall brings a unique character to the stone used and when built professionally creates an imposed natural beauty to gardens, grounds and boundary walls

The advantage of dry stane dykes are that indigenous materials are used, blending well with and enhancing scenery. They can be built on ground that's is too hard for fencing posts. They are fireproof and very durable , requiring minimal maintenance.
